Evaluation Details

Below are specifics about what to expect from some of our neurological evaluations.

ADHD

If your child is being evaluated in our office for ADHD, we might ask you to fill out the Vanderbilt forms. Dr. Moein may ask you to fill out the Vanderbilt parent version and ask your child’s teacher to fill out the Vanderbilt teacher version of the form.

Headaches

If your child is being evaluated for headaches, please use the headache diary form to document the frequency of the headaches, quality of the pain, time of the onset of the pain, aggravating factors, and if the child requires over-the-counter pain medication.

Concussion

For concussion evaluations, we use the ImPACT test, available in two versions: Baseline and Post-Injury. This non-invasive, video game-format test takes about 30 minutes and assesses memory, speed, concentration, and reaction time. It is recommended yearly for children aged 5-12 and every two years thereafter. If a concussion occurs, the Post-Injury ImPACT test provides a comparison to the baseline results to determine the severity of the concussion and when it is safe for the child to return to activities.

Seizures

For seizure evaluations, an EEG (Electroencephalogram) is often recommended. This non-invasive test measures brain waves and may include routine sleep-deprived EEG, Ambulatory EEG, or VEEG monitoring. Routine EEGs are more effective when the patient is sleep-deprived, as certain abnormalities are more likely to appear. Detailed instructions for sleep deprivation will be provided when the test is scheduled.
